The Legacy of Altenberg 1172:
Our Eibelstadter Mönchsleite Altenberg 1172 Silvaner I pays tribute to the legendary wine with which Walter Leininger won the State Honor Award in 1969 for the best wine in the Franconian wine competition. Remarkably, the very same vineyard parcel still produces our top Silvaner today.
Our goal has been to reconnect with the legacy and excellence established by Walter Leininger decades ago — and with the 2021 vintage, we succeeded. This wine received the modern counterpart to the award from 1969: the Ceratit Nodosus – Best-of-Gold.
In the Best-of-Gold competition, the finest wines in ten categories are selected through blind tastings from over 500 gold-awarded entries.
For years now, this Silvaner has ranked among Franconia’s finest, consistently earning high praise from wine critics and enthusiasts alike.
